West Coast

The West Coast region of New Zealand is located on the west coast of the South Island and it includes the districts of Buller, Grey and Westland. It reaches from Kahurangi Point in the north to Awarua Point in the south, a distance of 600 km. To the west is the Tasman Sea and to the east is the Southern Alps. The region has a very high rainfall due to the effect of the Southern Alps.

Southland

Southland is New Zealand's southernmost region with one city, Invercargill and main townships of Gore, Winton and Lumsden. The region is home to Fiordland National Park and includes Stewart Island, much of which is set aside as Rakiura National Park.

Otago

The Otago region of New Zealand lies in the southeast of the South Island. The name "Otago" is derived from the Kai Tahu Maori dialect name "Otakou". Kaitangata in South Otago provides a prominent coal source.
